Ramadan - Ninth month of the Muslim calendar. During this month Muslims fast for the entire month, fasting during daylight hours and eating only in the evenings.

Recruitment Agency - A company that specialises in the area of matching jobs to people looking for work. Some agencies will specialise in one industry sector, such as IT, law etc. and others, which work with general posts such as office and retail work.

Recruitment Consultant - A person who works for a Recruitment Agency. They are a sales-person that specialises in the marketing of people looking for employment. Normally they will concentrate in one industry sector, learning the industry and building contacts. Some generalise in recruitment of office staff, security etc.

Recruitment & Employment Confederation - A confederation of 8000 individual members (recruitment consultants and managers) and 6000 corporate office members.

Referral - This is a situation when on failing a particular exam you are allowed to retake that exam, however the maximum mark you can achieve is 40% (a pass), regardless of how well you actually do. This is different to a deferral whereby the mark you achieve is the actual mark you get. A deferral will only be allowed in exceptional circumstances.

Revision - The term revision refers to the task of re viewing information contained in books and notes in order to prepare for an upcoming exam. There are numerous techniques that can be used during the period of revision; these are discussed in the exam preparation section.

Revision Timetable - A revision timetable is a schedule the student uses to allocate periods of revision to be undertaken in preparation for an upcoming exam. For more information consult the exam preparation section.

RPI - The Retail Price Index (RPI) is used to calculate the value of certain state benefits. The RPI is based around the cost of approximately 600 consumer products (~150,000 price quotations are sampled) which are compiled by the Office for National Statistics. This provides a measure of price changes related to the cost of living to ensure that changes in the level of benefits are fair and realistic.
